A legal battle between Yahoo and Mozilla about the default search engine
عقدت كل من شركتي ياهوو و موزيلا عام 2014 اتفاقية لوضعها كمحرك بحث افتراضي في متصفح فايرفوكس، لكن قبل انتهاء الاتفاقية قررت موزيلا التخلي عن ياهوو واستبداله بقوقل، وهذا ما شن معركة قضائية بين الشركتين.
تتهم شركة Oath المالكة لشركة ياهوو، شركة موزيلا بأنها أخلّت ببنود الإتفاقية التي تقتضي الإنتظار حتى عام 2019 من أجل تغيير محرك البحث الافتراضي.
من جهتها ردت موزيلا على الدعوى القضائية، برفع دعوى جديدة تدّعي فيها أنها تملك الأسباب الموجبة للتخلي عن ياهوو كمحرك بحث وجعل قوقل محله.
وترى موزيلا من بين تلك الأسباب، ما هو أفضل لعلامتها التجارية، نتائج البحث الجيدة، وتجربة الوصول لمحتوى أوسع.
وبعد أن تخلت موزيلا عن ياهوو، لا تريد شركة Oath مواصلة دفع الرسوم المالية بشكل متواصل وفق الإتفاقية المنعقدة بينهما خلال رئاسة ماريسا ماير حيث من المقرر دفع 300 مليون دولار سنوياً.
Yahoo and Mozilla signed an agreement in 2014 to set it up as a default search engine in Firefox, but before the deal ended, Mozilla decided to abandon Yahoo and replace it with Buckle, which sparked a legal battle between the two companies.
Oath, the owner of Yahoo, charges that Mozilla has violated the terms of the agreement, which requires a wait until 2019 to change the default search engine.
For its part, Mozilla responded to the lawsuit, filed a new lawsuit alleging that it has the reasons to abandon Yahoo as a search engine and make Google replace it.
For those reasons, Mozilla sees what is best for its brand, good search results, and access to broader content.
After Mozilla abandoned Yahoo, Oath does not want to continue to pay the fees on a continuing basis in accordance with the agreement between them during the presidency of Marissa Mayer, where it is scheduled to pay 300 million dollars annually.
