At first glance, the pocket-sized camera does not look very different from other 360-degree cameras. Able to shoot 18 MP images and 4K video at 30 frames per second, specifications about what you would expect from a $ 499 camera.
But the real magic happens when you associate Relo with the iPhone companion app (the company says the Android version is also in business). The application imports your footage and allows you to control almost every aspect of the video after you have shot it, directly from your phone.
Although the camera captures 360 degree video, this means more capacity to provide additional flexibility with the finished product than it is to produce absolutely immersive video. Anything you've created in the end can be the same as "flattened" videos that are usually shared on Facebook or Instagram.
The "Continue" feature allows you to select the part of the video you want to focus on, and the Reel application adjusts to focus on following the subject (this is similar to what the GoPro 360 ° Fusion camera does). There is also a "Frontback" feature that captures a kind of image in the shot image to show what's behind and in front of the camera, simulatonously.
The best feature, however, is one called "points", which lets you create an ideal snapshot by clicking on different areas of the video you want to focus on. You will have to wait for a full review to really put Rilu, the application, through his steps, but I walked away from the first demo seriously impressed with the camera and its potential to make video editing as easy as posting to Instagram.
