Apple and Amazon are negotiating to be in Saudi Arabia

Reuters reported that negotiations between Apple and Amazon to invest in Saudi Arabia and launch operations in the Kingdom.

The sources confirmed that Apple is negotiating with the General Authority for Investment. Details of what Apple and Amazon are planning to launch in the country are not yet known.

It is known that Apple sells its products through agents and stores not owned by it, and does not have a direct presence in the country.

According to Reuters, Amazon's cloud computing sector is negotiating with the Saudi authorities suggesting it may launch its cloud services to rival the local sector controlled by STC and Mobily. Amazon is still in the early stages of its talks.

Amazon's cloud services are the world's largest in terms of revenue, surpassing Microsoft. Amazon said in September it plans to set up data centers to serve near Bahrain.

Apple is expected to receive a license to open its stores from the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (KIA) in February, where it plans to launch its first official store in 2019.

The kingdom has relaxed restrictions on foreign ownership in Saudi Arabia over the past two years to encourage direct investment and attract foreign investment, especially as oil prices fall into 2030.
